Insidious is a horror story about a family of four with two boys, moving into a new house. In exploring the attic, the older boy, Dalton, falls off a
ladder and falls into some sort of coma. When doctors can't predict when Dalton will come out of the coma, the family is given permission to
bring him home from the hospital to reest in his own bed. That week, the mother starts to see demons around the house. The demons start to
get more and more aggressive, until the family is convinced that their new house is haunted and they decide to move to a new one. When the
demons continue to show themselves in the new house, the family hires a psychic to help. The psychic tells the family that their house isn't
haunted- in fact, their son's soul has been captured and demons are attempting to enter his body. At first, the family doesn't believe the
psychic, but when the father's mother comes over to comfort them and tells the father about a similar experience that he'd had when he was
young, the father and mother decide to hire the psychic again. The psychic tells the father that the only way to save Dalton is to go into the
demon world, find his soul, and come back out to the real world. The father almost accomplishes this; he got Dalton out. However, another
demon took control of the father's body while he was in the demon world, and the demon inside the father kills the psychic. The last scene of
the movie is when the mother finds the psychic dead on the couch, and the demon-father puts his hand on her shoulder, setting up for the
sequel coming in September 2013.
In my opinion, Insidious was a well-done horror movie. The plot wasn't very revealing because the acting was very good, and the ending
really caught me by surprise. I thought that the psychic (Lin Shaye) was the scariest actor in the movie because of how mysteriously she
acted and the absurd way that shedied. The demons also had really good costumes and makeup, which made them look totally authentic.
I thought that Ty Simpkins seemed like a pretty inexperienced actor for the first part of the movie, and throughout the middle of the movie
all he did was lie in a bed. However, there was a scene where he got possessed by a demon and he played that perfectly. Really crept
me out. I'm definitely looking forward to the sequel.
